- Weakened immune system
Diagnosis

- Best specimens: directly from the rash - skin, fluid, or crusts
- Collection method: swabbing
- Alternative specimens: oropharyngeal, anal, or rectal swabs if skin lesions are absent
Why PCR??
WHO recommends polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as the preferred laboratory test given its accuracy and sensitivity
- High accuracy and reliability
- Quick turnaround time for results
- Non-invasive sample collection
- Collection Method: swabbing
Who should be tested??
- Individuals with symptoms of monkeypox
- Close contacts of confirmed monkeypox cases
- Individuals with potential exposure
- People with compromised immune systems
- Healthcare workers and laboratory personnel
