What is EBV?
- The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a member of the Herpesviridae family.
- EBV is the one of the most common human viruses and is found all over the world.
- Many people get infected with EBV at some point in their lives.
Causes
- Infection mononucleosis
- Burkitt lymphoma
- Nasopharyngeal carcinomas
- Several lymphoproliferative syndromes
Mode of Transmission
- EBV is secreted in saliva and pharyngeal secretions.
- It can also spread through blood and semen during sexual contact and organ transplantations through blood transfusions.
Diagnosis
- EBV Infection can be confirmed with a blood test that detects antibodies.
- PCR EBV is available in Geneflux Laboratories to detect EBV.
